The Grooming Process

the grooming process is the strategy used by the abuser to trap his target .An abuser takes his time to think of ways of starting and building up a relationship with the targeted child . This makes it easier for the abuse to occur .The abuser starts by building a trust relationship with the child making the child feel wanted and special . In some cases he gives the child compliments and presents to entice and endear the child to himself .

These gestures separate the child from family and friends who in most cases have not cared much or shown much love , care , affection and attention to the child . The child may be exposed to touching games by the abuser , whereby the child touches the abuser and abuser touches back Innocently the child agrees to do whatever the game entails Getting the child to end up touching the parts of the body that are private to the abuser and allowing to be touched inappropriately too in these areas .

It is therefore very important to teach a child how to keep safe and to be able to differentiate between safe and unsafe touches . Children should never be held responsible for their own sexual action
